Wattpad has this amazing thing where if your book is in the top 1000 for it’s genre, it will tell you what number you are.
And guess what?
I’m #661 in Fantasy!!!!
Excuse me while I go over here and scream while jumping up and down! Seriously, that is so incredibly awesome to me that my book has had enough reads, votes and comments to be on a list.
If you have been reading the story, and you saw the post I uploaded yesterday, than you know where I left off. I would love to know what you think? Did I take you by surprise?
Let me know lovelies!
I know I have a few readers out there, so I’m wondering if y’all would like me to talk about the process I use while writing. Like, how I managed to type out the first draft and how I finally got it polished enough to show people. If you would like to read something like that, or anything else that comes to mind, let me know! I would absolutely love to hear from you!
Today in the states it’s Thanksgiving Day. And while some will be out shopping before the turkey is even carved, I will be with my family. Whatever you may be doing to celebrate and wherever you may be in the world, I want to wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving.
Adele’s new album was released yesterday, but I’ve been singing her new song for weeks now. At the top of my lungs. In my car. Like I’m on stage. I love it. I love the way her voice carries the words.
And I love the way it makes me write. I’m currently writing the first draft to a sequel to my first story “Broken Crown.” And since there are a few heated arguments, it puts me in the right mood.
I’ve been replaying it over and over again. She could probably sing anything, and it would move me to tears.
So there you have it. Another song I write to. Another way Leven’s story plays out for me. Until next time
I’m guilty of it. When I go looking for a new book to read, I always take into account the cover. If it has too much going on, I immediately put it back. No back cover read, no first page, nothing. I just put it down and move on.
I do the same thing on Wattpad. I usually pass by the covers that don’t draw me in. I like simple covers. I don’t want a lot of graphics going on, and I’m pretty weird about people being on the cover. I’ve just never liked it.
With that being said, I wanted to tell you about a website called Canva. It’s what I used to make my cover for Broken Crown. I actually bought the imageand then used Canva to add the title and my name. Now, that’s easy enough to do in word or paint, but I liked that I could use one of their premade templates to get the title right where I needed it.
I haven’t had any complaints on it, but I also haven’t had any comments. But I am happy with it. Canva is free to use, all you have to do is sign up!
As always, happy writing!
I don’t have much for you today, except to say “Happy Little Mermaid Day!” I’m not sure how you celebrate. If this was summer, I would totally be in the pool, flinging my hair around and singing. But it’s November, and I live in Kentucky, so…
I hope you guys have a grate day!!!
I know I’m not the only one who listens to music while I write. I can’t be. I know the Twilight series was written while she listened to Muse. And why they didn’t have a part in the writing of my story, others did. So, I thought this would be a good place to list some of the music that made Broken Crown possible.
First up, Imagine Dragons song Radioactive. I don’t know why. Leven never deals with radioactivity. But I absolutely loved the song, and listened to it over and over again. To the point where I may have had a slight problem. It was instrumental in me getting the first two chapters completed.
Next isn’t actually a band many people will have ever heard of. Brand X makes music for movie trailers. You know that awesome action movie? They more than likely provided the music you can hear in the background. And if you look for them on Amazon, you will that they have a ton of tracks. So which ones did I listen to? All or Nothing, which you can hear in the Catching Fire trailer and World Without End, which is in the Divergent trailer. They are great songs because there are no words, so you kind of just get lost in the moment. I listen to them while I wrote a lot of the action scenes. It helped me visualize what was going on, helped me find my flow if you will.
And last but not least, my favorite, what I listened to while love was in the air! With Leven being 16, having her fall in love was inevitable. I needed something that brought back all those butterflies from my teen years. Can’t Help Falling Ls made famous by Elvis Presley, and while I like the version, it wasn’t the one I listened to while I wrote the love scenes. Dan Henig, of youtube fame, has an amazing version. One I loved so much, that I played his video constantly. You can see it here https://youtu.be/jOYwjvda0_o
I hope you enjoyed this little trip into my world. If you have had a chance to read my book, please tell me what you think!
